The Celtic Festival of Bealtaine

The Celtic Festival of Bealtaine, which marks the beginning of summer in the ancient Celtic calendar is a Cross Quarter Day, half way between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. While the Beltane Festival is now associated with May 1st, the actual astronomical date is a number of days later.

Historically the festival was marked with the lighting of bonfires and the movement of animals to summer pastures.🐄🐂🌳🔥 In Irish mythology, the beginning of the summer season started with the Fire Festival at Beltane. Great bonfires would mark a time of purification and transition, heralding in the season in the hope of a good harvest later in the year, and were accompanied with rituals to protect the people from any harm by otherworldly spirits.

🔥 Traditionally the first fire of the festival is believed to have been lit at Uisneach which is said to be the burial site of the Earth Goddess Ériu & the Sun God Lugh and as such is regarded as sacred ground. It is amazing and powerful to stand on the hill and watch the fires appear on the surroundings hills and Sacred Sites. 🔥 Ériu is the Celtic Goddess of the land. It is from her that Ireland, Éire got its name. She embodies the Irish Feminine; wild & beautiful inside and out. 🌏 Maybe wherever you are today connect with the energy of the earth and ask for her energy to flow within you and around you. Feel the energy & power within you. #Bealtaine #CyclesRhythms #CelticSpirtuality #DivineFeminine #earthgoddess
